From the first edition of Swimzine we knew we wanted to give back to charities and organisations who support outdoor swimmers.
Below are some of the organisations we are proud to have supported.
Close to our home and our hearts, Edale Mountain Rescue Team (EMRT) operates in the Peak District National Park. On call 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, and is one of the busiest Mountain Rescue teams in the country. In recent years their assistance has been requested by various police forces to help search for missing people closer to the urban fringes around the Peak District.
Each year in the UK more than 6000 people take their own live - each suicide has a devastating and lasting impact on families, friends and communities.
SOBS exists to break the isolation experienced by those bereaved by suicide. A self-help organisation, they provide a safe, confidential environment for bereaved people to share their experiences and feelings.
OWEN is a water safety education programme. Their aim is to act as a resource for children, young people and adults by providing education and support while promoting water safety. They have a successful ambassador programme which uses peer to peer training within schools, supported by online platforms including virtual reality experiences.
Since 1824 the RNLI has pioneered developments in lifesaving at sea. And their lifesavers have shown unfailing courage and selflessness. The brave, voluntary RNLI lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour rescue service in the UK and Ireland, and their seasonal lifeguards look after people on busy beaches. They also have a Flood Rescue Team that, as the name suggests, helps those affected by flooding.
